David Sheldrick elephant orphanage is a part of the David Sheldrick Conservation Foundation. The center work across Kenya to secure safe havens for wildlife. They not only work to protect elephants and rhinos, but entire ecosystems and the diverse flora and fauna sustained in these places of stunning natural beauty.

This baby elephant orphanage rehabilitates baby elephants and other wildlife just outside of the Nairobi National Park.

Flora and fauna in Kenya face a myriad of challenges that threaten their long term future. Few ecosystems still exist where the impact of human activity has not been felt, threatening biodiversity and the long term survival of many species.

Today, the Sheldrick orphanage is a focal point for Elephant Conservation. The Conservation program is run by Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

These your Elephants receive extremely specialized treatment here, and literally receive personal care 24 hours a day from highly dedicated staff who become surrogate mothers to the calves.

Those babies who have lost their mothers due to poaching, death, injuries, on getting lost in the wild or other tragedies are taken care of well over here. Daphne and her dedicated staff care them and raise them until they are ready enough to be released to their wild habitats.

Eventually the calves are moved to Tsavo, where they are carefully reintroduced into wild herds.

The center is open to the public each morning (11am-12pm). At this time the calves are being exercised and bathed and visitors are free to watch. This is a good center for general information on Elephants and their Conservation.

With this tour you will be experiencing and seeing humanitarian care to wildlife and the heart it takes to care. A small entrance fees of ksh.500 is charged or can opt to buy a souvenir or donate something for the conservation.
