Daphne Sheldrick elephant orphanage is a part of the David Sheldrick Conservation Foundation.

This baby elephant orphanage rehabilitates baby elephants and other wildlife just outside of the Nairobi National Park.

Today, the Sheldrick orphanage is a focal point for Elephant Conservation.

They receive extremely specialized treatment here, and literally receive personal care 24 hours a day from highly dedicated staff who become surrogate mothers to the calves.

Those babies who have lost their mothers due to poaching, death, injuries, on getting lost in the wild or other tragedies are taken care of well over here.

Daphne and her dedicated staff care them and raise them until they are ready enough to be released to their wild habitats.

Eventually the calves are moved to Tsavo, where they are carefully reintroduced into wild herds.

The center is open to the public each morning (11am-12pm)

At this time the calves are being exercised and bathed and visitors are free to watch.

A small entrance fees of ksh.500 is charged or can opt to buy a souvenir or donate something for the conservation.
